How to be Saved
Note: All Scripture quotations are from the King James Bible.
To be saved, the first step is to admit that you are a sinner (Isaiah 6:5, Job 42:6, 2 Corinthians 7:10). Because of your sins, you are separated from God, who is holy. If you died today without being saved, sadly, your final destination would be the lake of fire.
“..There is none righteous, no, not one:” (Romans 3:10)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)
“..whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15)
There are no second chances after death.
“..it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)
Salvation is not earned by works. No man can work his way into Heaven. Going to a local fellowship, being baptized in water, reading your Bible, praying, and turning from sins are all good works, but no good work can save us. Salvation is by faith alone in Jesus Christ, plus nothing (Titus 3:5, Romans 4:5, Galatians 2:16).
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save sinners (John 3:16). Jesus was born of a virgin (Matthew 1:23). He lived a sinless life (2 Corinthians 5:21) and was beaten and nailed to the cross to die. While on the cross, Jesus bore our sins and took the wrath of God for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). After Jesus died, He was placed in a tomb and rose again the third day by the power of God. His death, burial and resurrection is the Gospel that saves us. We are redeemed and justified by His blood (Ephesians 1:7).
“..God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom. 5:8)
“Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;” (Romans 3:25)
To be saved you can pray something like this in your own words…
“Lord, I know that I am a sinner and my good works cannot save me from Hell. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried and rose again. I am believing on Jesus as my Saviour and trusting His blood to forgive my sins.”
When you accept Jesus Christ as Saviour, God’s word tells you that you can know you are saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:13)
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” (Ephesians 1:13)
Salvation is not earned by works, neither is salvation kept by works (1 Peter 1:5). We can show our love for Christ by obedience and doing good works, but that is for close fellowship with God, not salvation. If we do not live for Christ, we will not receive rewards at the Judgment Seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10). We will also reap what we sow (Galatians 6:2). Prayer and studying the King James Bible are two of the most important things we can do to stay close to God.
